We have read this to our children, and they LOVE it! We talked about the main character, Boar, after finishing the book. It is an easy read but gets your children thinking about what could be and using your imagination to create scenarios. I recommend buying this book.

Simple but packed with appeal

On the surface this is a simple story, but on a deeper level it's about so many things kids struggle with: pretending to be who they think their parents want them to be, sibling rivalry and wanting your parents to protect you from the mean older sister, the relief and joy when their parents see and accept them as who they really are. The charming illustrations add to the illusion that boar is really telling and illustrating the story. On the adult level, it will charm anyone whose love is big enough to animate the normally inanimate world around them.

In a humble pet food store, nestled an array of colorful dog chew toys, sat a lone boar toy. Eager find a forever home, she positioned herself at the edge of the rack, hoping to catch the attention of two people sharing laughter nearby. Her plan worked, and soon was whisked away to a new life. However, her excitement turned to dismay when she was given to their dog, Martha, as a plush companion. After a few playful squeaks, the two people hear her distress and rescued her, welcoming the boar into their loving family.
